About Soul at Work Cafes
What is Soul at Work?

In 2007 we featured four cafes that explore how women are leading in their own terms. The psychological, scientific, feministic, economic and developmental dynamics are all part of this exploration of leading women. The process is a series of cafes to amplify the concept of feminine leadership, for women and men, is the successful way to lead given the conditions and changing dynamics in our world and organizations.

Our Soul at Work cafes animate 3 tenets to demonstrate how strong women lead in their own terms and create more Soul at Work:

1. Introduce new role models and stories from women who have overcome obstacles and succeeded in their work by listened to their inner voice about what mattered.

2. Develop and expand a network for sharing strategies and practices.

3. Gather to support each other in implementing innovative practices.

Using the metaphor of "Soul at Work", the flow of the year goes from a perspective of what engages AND what distracts us from bringing our soul to work to identifying key practices that you can implement right away. Each café will explore a perspective, take the themes to the audience, and then identify the practices.

Amy Kalafa FilmmakerIn our first 2008 café on March 5, 2008 we featured Amy Kalafa of the Two Angry Moms to uncover her leadership practices that lead her to make the movie, which is becoming a movement to bring healthier foods to our school cafeterias. Her real leadership practices to explore are:

  • How she was able to develop and use the talents she already had to foster change
  • Taking a risk to start and finish something without all the resources lined up at the start
  • Seeking and finding another woman with whom to collaborate
  • Showing the story in terms of solutions, not just the problem
For more information, to download the audio tape, and preview the movie please go to Amy's Cafe page

From Birute Regine, Launch Cafe in October 2006"In a global environment and interconnected reality, it is women’s skills that are most needed and effective--their holistic view of the world, their ability to see interconnections between things, their relational intelligence, their tendencies toward collaboration and inclusion, their ability to empathize, are all keenly pertinent to our new global reality."
